Best Down Vest 2026
"I purchased the Ptarmigan down vest in olive green, after an exhaustive search. I was looking for a puffer vest that would be warm, fashionable and had a high collar to keep out the cold. The Ptarmigan ticked all of those boxes. It seemed like I was between sizes, so I ordered a men's M and L - the medium ended up being the perfect fit (5'10", 170lbs) so I returned the other one without any issues. I primarily bought this vest with the intention of wearing it for spring cycling up here in chilly Minnesota, but it looks so nice I usually throw it over a black tee and wear it with jeans when I'm running errands or heading to the gym. You'll find less expensive options online, but this down vest is worth every penny."

Best Vest Ever
"I bought this and the first week temperatures dropped and it was not only comfortable, it was warm. The elastic in the arm openings keep the wind out without any binding. Great design. When I travel it is easy to roll up in the supplied bag and throw in the back pack. The real test was wearing only the Ptarmigan vest and the Blacktail Sweater in 4 degrees with windchill of minus 10 and I was very comfortable. The fit is true to size. Best purchase ever when it comes to a vest."

Ptarmigan Ultra Down Vest
"Ok, being very honest: After opening the box my first thought was "This is 5oz of down?" SKRE told me it was. It's about half as thick as my 30 year old "Gander Mt". down vest. I was very disappointed this vest was made in China. {I'm not sure if there are any USA made down vest} I was very happy the vest has two inside zippered pockets along with the two outside zippered pockets. It is a very handsome vest and zips up high around the neck also the stitching looks good. In Summary: based on an out of the box review and not an after winter of wearing review, including my initial disappointment's I can only give it a 4 star rating. If it had a bit more down fill with a drop down backside to keep my back warmer when I'm sitting, I would go 5 stars even with it made in China. If this vest I purchased was made in the USA I would go 5+ stars."
